Unemployment Rate
This text is replaced by chart.

About the indicator:

Unemployment figures measure the number of people without jobs who are actively seeking work. These numbers also reflect the success of the economy in providing opportunities for residents to support themselves and their families.

Performance Analysis:

The unemployment rate will never be zero as there will always be a number of people looking for employment. The historic range for Allegan County before the recession started in 2008 was 5-7%. After a sharp rise to 12.5% in 2009 during the height of the recession, performance has improved with the rate dropping to a low of 3.9% by the end of 2017. The data also show that Allegan County has a consistently lower unemployment rate than Michigan.

Data Notes:

Data shown comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Local Area Statics (LAUS) program.
