The Food Service Program is responsible for the licensing and inspection of food service establishments based upon the Michigan Food Law 2000, as amended. Follow the links below to download a copy of the Food Law and Food Code.
The following are the different types of establishments local health departments are responsible for.
Licensed Establishments

FFSE's are more commonly known as restaurants.

Mobile
A mobile food service establishment means a food service establishment operating from a vehicle, trailer, or watercraft and must return to a licensed commissary at least once every 24 hours.
Special Transitory Food Unit (STFU)
A STFU is a temporary food establishment licensed to operate throughout the state without the 14-day limits or a mobile food establishment that is not required to return to a commissary. STFU’s are required to notify each local jurisdiction if they will be operating in their county by submitting a notice of intent.
Vending Machine Location
A Vending Machine Location is a room, enclosure, space, or area where one or more vending machines are installed and operated. Where there are multiple vending machine locations in a building, each shall be licensed separately.
Temporary Food Service Establishment
A temporary food service establishment means a food service establishment, which operates at a fixed location for a temporary period of time not to exceed 2 weeks. If you are planning a temporary food event, then follow the links below to the application and checklist.
