Who We Are

The Community Mental Health Board is a Policy Governance Board pursuant to Section 226 of the Mental Health Code. Appointments are made by the Board of County Commissioners and the term length for members is three (3) years.

The Michigan Mental Health Code (330.1222) stipulates the composition of a community mental health services board shall be representative of:

• Providers of mental health services,
• Recipients or primary consumers of mental health services, minimum of 2 (recipient/consumer is defined as an individual who has received or is receiving services from a community mental health services program or from the private sector equivalent to those offered by the Department or a community mental health services program,)
• Family members of primary consumers, minimum of 2, (family is defined as a parent, stepparent, spouse, sibling, child, or grandparent of a primary consumer, or an individual upon whom a primary consumer is dependent for at least 50% of his/her financial support,)
• Agencies and occupations having a working involvement with mental health services,
• General public,
• Public officials, 6 maximum of which no more than 4 County Commissioners (Public official is defined as individuals serving in an elected or appointed public office or employed more than 20 hours per week by an agency of federal, state, city, or local government, including public schools or colleges or universities.)
